Short answer
The best restaurant POS systems in 2026 include Toast and Square (strongest in the US), Lightspeed Restaurant (Europe, Canada, Australia), TouchBistro (iPad full service), Clover and SpotOn (US, payments-led), Revel (enterprise QSR), Foodics (Middle East), Petpooja and Restroworks (India), Loyverse (free, small cafés) and EvronDesk (offline-first, no processing lock-in, UK to South Asia). The best one for you depends on your venue type, your country and how you want to pay for card processing.
How we compared them
We looked at what matters on a busy night and on the monthly statement:
- Venue fit: full service, quick service, bars, cafés, delivery
- Where it's sold and supported
- Hardware: your own devices or the provider's
- Card processing: your choice, or theirs
- Offline mode
- Kitchen, online ordering and delivery apps: included or add-on
- Contracts and pricing model
We don't quote competitors' prices, because they change often and differ by country and deal. Check each provider's current pricing page. Everything below reflects public information at the time of writing.
A word on bias
We make EvronDesk, so we're not neutral. We've tried to be fair, to say plainly where other systems are stronger, and to list our own gaps. If something here is out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

The systems, one by one
Toast
Toast is built only for restaurants and has a deep feature set: kitchen display, handhelds, online ordering, payroll and more. It runs on Toast's own Android hardware and requires Toast payment processing. Best for US, Canadian, UK and Irish restaurants that want one supplier for everything and are comfortable with integrated processing. Watch for hardware you can't reuse elsewhere and the overall cost once add-ons and processing are included.
Square for Restaurants
Square's restaurant POS has a free plan, a clean interface and good handhelds. It requires Square's processing. Best for small restaurants and cafés in Square's markets that want to start quickly and cheaply. Watch for paid tiers and add-ons as you grow, and processing you can't take elsewhere.
Lightspeed Restaurant
Lightspeed is an iPad-based POS popular with mid-size restaurants and groups, especially in Europe, Canada and Australia, with strong reporting and multi-location tools. Best for established restaurants and groups in those markets. Watch for pricing that rises with modules and locations.
TouchBistro
TouchBistro is an iPad POS designed around full-service restaurants: tables, courses and server workflows, with optional add-ons for reservations and loyalty. Best for sit-down restaurants that like iPads. Watch for add-on pricing and iPad-only hardware.
Clover
Clover is Fiserv's POS platform, often sold through banks and payment providers. It's hardware-led, with restaurant features on top. Best for owners who want to buy POS and processing through their bank. Watch for contract terms set by the reseller, which vary a lot.
SpotOn
SpotOn is a US restaurant and bar POS with integrated payments and a broad suite of add-ons. Best for US restaurants and bars that want hands-on onboarding. Watch for contract and processing terms.
Revel Systems
Revel is an iPad-based POS aimed at quick-service and larger multi-unit operators, with strong customisation. Best for QSR chains with in-house teams. Watch for setup complexity for smaller venues.
Foodics
Foodics, founded in Saudi Arabia, is widely used by restaurants across the Middle East, with Arabic-first design and local integrations including ZATCA e-invoicing. Best for restaurants in Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf, especially those that need a certified ZATCA Phase 2 solution today. Watch for coverage outside MENA.
Petpooja
Petpooja is a popular billing and POS system for Indian restaurants, known for KOTs, GST billing and Swiggy and Zomato integration. Best for Indian restaurants of most sizes. Watch for support outside India.
Restroworks (formerly Posist)
Restroworks is an enterprise cloud restaurant platform used by large chains in India, the Middle East and beyond, covering POS, inventory and central kitchens. Best for chains with dozens or hundreds of outlets. Watch for fit and cost for single restaurants.
Loyverse
Loyverse offers a free POS app with paid add-ons for things like advanced inventory and employee management. Best for very small cafés and kiosks on a tight budget. Watch for restaurant-specific depth such as coursing, tables and a full kitchen display.
EvronDesk
EvronDesk is a cloud POS for restaurants, bars, cafés, cloud kitchens and hotel F&B outlets. It runs on any device with a modern browser, works offline, includes the kitchen display, online and QR ordering, inventory, loyalty and reports, and lets you keep your own card processing. It has delivery-app intake, Shopify and WooCommerce orders, FBR and PRA reporting in Pakistan, ZATCA-format QR in Saudi Arabia and an open API. Plans are US$29–99 a month per location with no contract.
Best for independent restaurants and small groups in the UK, North America, the Gulf and South Asia that want offline reliability, their own processing, and one system across several countries.
Where we fall short today, honestly:
- No integrated card processing, so card amounts aren't sent to the terminal automatically
- Six fixed staff roles, not custom roles
- No live GPS tracking of delivery drivers
- ZATCA Phase 2 is handled through a certified provider, not natively
- In Singapore, GST is calculated on food and drink but not yet on service charge
- A smaller partner ecosystem than long-established US systems
- Not a hotel PMS: it covers F&B outlets only
Which one should you choose?
- You're in the US and want one supplier for everything: Toast or Square, depending on size.
- You're in Europe, Canada or Australia and growing: Lightspeed, or EvronDesk if you want your own processing and offline mode.
- You're in Saudi Arabia and need ZATCA Phase 2 natively today: Foodics, or EvronDesk with a certified e-invoicing provider.
- You're in India: Petpooja for single sites, Restroworks for large chains, EvronDesk if you also trade in the Gulf or want an open API.
- You're in Pakistan: EvronDesk, with FBR and PRA built in.
- You're a tiny café on a shoestring: Loyverse or Square's free plan, or EvronDesk Starter if you want offline mode and a kitchen display included.
- You run several countries or brands: pick a system that works in every market you trade in, with multi-location reporting and an API.

Which restaurant POS has no processing lock-in?
Systems that let you use any card terminal, such as EvronDesk, leave processing with your own bank or provider. Many US systems, including Toast and Square, require their own processing.
